Currently I am a Third year student at RMIT studying a Bachelor of Arts: Music Industry. I have quite a history involving music and to you give more insight on who I am and where I've been in the Music Industry, I'm going to wind back the clock to 2014.
Since my teenage years I've had a passion for music and it is something that I really wanted to pursue after high school, so after I completed VCE in 2014 I went on to study a Diploma in Sound Production at Box Hill. This 1 year course gave me an incredible insight to an array of areas inside the Music Industry.
During the Diploma I worked in live Sound, mixing bands and different performers using digital and analog mixers. I worked in a Studio, mixing and recording bands through Pro Tools and other DAWS. I gained knowledge in how to use a variety of DAWS especially Ableton. I learnt Production techniques and had a dedicated class on Sound Design where we learnt how to correctly record audio and how to produce audio using different VST Plug-ins.
During this time I worked as a free lance DJ, booking gigs at bars, clubs and private events, such as birthdays and other functions.
In 2016 & 2017 I focused on working as a DJ and Producer. These 2 years were extremely valuable as I met so many new people and started creating contacts I would never have had if I didn't put myself out there to meet. I gained a residency spot at The Brunswick Hotel, DJing every Thursday night (Uni Night). I originally started playing there in 2015.
I started to DJ a lot of the House and Hip hop nights at Greenwood loft in Fitzroy, this lead to me hosting my own club night once a month. Then after a few of my events I did every Friday night and took on the role as Event Coordinator for the Friday night. I started a club night titled "Culture, Hip Hop Fridays".
This was an amazing experience for me as I started to take on a bigger role which came with new challenges and responsibilities.
In this position I was responsible for creating the events, making an engaging social media presence, booking DJs, the Photographer and creating an engaging atmosphere each week for all the patrons.
In 2018 I decided I wanted to further my Education as I wanted to gain the skills to work in the Business sector of the Music Industry and not only as an Artist. I decided to study a Bachelor of Arts: Music Industry at RMIT.
In this Bachelors Degree I have met a lot of new people and have created new contacts that I believe will benefit me greatly in the future. I have had the opportunity to work along side Mushroom Group labels, Soothsayer and I OH YOU, organising and working on the day of City Loop Music Festival. This was an amazing experience for me, especially as it was in a specific area in the Industry on which I plan to build a career in.
My previous education taught me a lot of hands on skills where as this degree has focused more on the Academic and Business side of the Music Industry which has been fantastic for me, as I feel I am becoming fully competent in an array of areas within the Music Industry.
In this degree I have also taken on subjects that I've always been interested in such as Psychology, Economics, Online Networking, Advertising, Finance and Politics. I am very glad I decided to further my education as I feel it has opened up so many new and exciting opportunities for me and has also given me a new insight on different areas of the Industry.
During this Degree I have Volunteered at Changes Music Festival. I've interned with Eco Productions at multiple events and have worked at multiple music festivals such as City Loop, Changes, Pitch and Innervarnika.
Working and Volunteering at Innervarnika was an amazing experience for me. I was there a week ahead, assisting in multiple areas in preparation for the festival that went over the Easter Long weekend. Seeing the festival come together was really awesome and was interesting to see how many different positions there are, in the production of a festival. During the festival I worked alongside the Safety Officer and spent a lot of time working in Site Operations.
I met a lot of hard working and passionate people that week and made some great contacts. Working at a festival in Country Victoria was a brand new experience for me and now I’m glad to say I have worked and learned about what it takes to run a festival in a city location and in a country location.
My latest Project is my new line of Events titled "Sea of Sounds".
Sea of sounds was inspired and influenced by artists such as Flume, What so Not, ODESZA, Ekali, Cashmere Cat and many more.
The aim is to create a platform for artists who don’t fit the generic club scene but produce a diverse sound of electronic music.
I'm extremely passionate about various styles of electronic music and pride myself through Sea of Sounds on being able to provide a platform for emerging Australian artists who are passionate about their sound.
